Knights Inn - Florence, SC

I arrived late after trying two other hotels, and this was the first with a room for me and my dog. It’s handy for the interstate and several restaurants. The staff were polite and friendly, easily the best part of the place. The room had roaches and odd stains on the floor and mirrors, and the property felt run down. Maybe the company should put more into maintenance.

The place feels neglected in all sorts of ways. The floors are peeling, and the hollow flooring carries the sound of neighbors walking next door. There are stains on the toilet seat and walls, the sink is old and cracked, and paint in the tub is flaking. The bathroom door hangs crooked and needs a towel wedged in the frame to close. The toilet is small, with no lid to set clothes on, so you have to put them on the floor. The ice bucket they allow you to use is tiny. The curtains don’t cover the whole window, and the raised doorway isn’t accessible for wheelchairs. Outside, a layer has been put over the walls to make them look decent. There was also lazy patchwork. The bed had bed bugs. The TV had no remote, and there was no room phone. Management wasn’t helpful and wouldn’t let us point a door camera at our vehicles. Do not stay here.

We booked without seeing the room and ended up in a neglected section of the motel supposedly being renovated. It was filthy and smelled strongly of smoke. People who looked unsavory seemed to be staying in the rooms set aside for renovation, without supervision. We were worried about leaving our loaded vehicle there overnight, so we left.

The front desk clerk was very kind and understanding, but the room wasn’t good enough for us. The toilet hadn’t been flushed, the sheets looked dingy, there was a bad odor, and the tub hadn’t been cleaned. It wasn’t dirty in every way, but only just clean enough. My children felt uncomfortable and the atmosphere was unpleasant, so we checked out about half an hour after arriving. I didn’t ask for a refund because I figured I wouldn’t get one, and took the loss. You get what you pay for, I guess. I’ll never try staying here again. Out of 10, I’d give it 1.5.
