Kimpton Schofield Hotel by IHG

The staff were friendly at check-in and at Betts, and I liked that the stairs are central and encouraged. The hotel is fine, just not great. The rooms are worn, and the walls are thin enough that I could hear people in both neighboring rooms. For a hotel this size with a wellness focus, the gym is tiny. The morning coffee was cold.

The lobby fire pit was a cozy place to warm up, and valet parking was a nice treat. Staff were friendly, answered all my questions, and even had treats for my dog. I had a really nice one-night stay with my French bulldog in the Van Gogh Suite. It was a fun room, with great views and two TVs. There was even a guitar on the wall for someone musical to play, which isn’t me, lol, but it was cool anyway. After a long drive, ordering a burger from downstairs was just what I needed. My pup and I will definitely stay again if I’m passing through or in Cleveland. Two thumbs and four paws up.

Parking was the one downside. Valet costs over $50, though looking back it might be worth it. I chose a nearby garage for $35 and had to walk 3-5 blocks. The rest made for a great first stay at a Kimpton. It’s in a central part of the city, and I loved being able to bring my pets. My apartment-style room was amazing, with a personal gym and a record player stocked with albums from the Black Keys and other famous artists. I also ate at Betts, the first-floor restaurant, and the food was great, with gluten-free and dairy-free options.

We booked two nights in Cleveland for a vacation, but left a day early after my wife developed a severe respiratory issue following her shower the first morning. She has a mold allergy, and when I checked the shower, I found a large amount of black mold all over it. At the front desk, they seemed more concerned with reminding us the reservation was non-refundable than finding a solution. We were told a manager would call, but three days later we still hadn’t heard anything. Terrible service.
