Hampton Inn Clewiston

This is easily the nicest Hampton Inn I’ve stayed at, and my most memorable hotel experience from any chain in years. I travel often for business and personal trips, and one evening I was driving from Fort Myers back to Coral Gables. I didn’t want to risk a breakdown in rural central Florida after dark, so I stopped here. The place was extremely well kept and decorated beautifully for Christmas. I don’t usually get excited about a new hotel, but the Clewiston staff and management deserve kudos for making it my best Hampton Inn stay ever.

The staff were very polite, hospitable, and ready to help with whatever we asked for. Breakfast was great, too. I appreciated that they displayed the American flag and no other flag. That matters to me.

The hotel and room look fine, but room 419 had a terrible bed and the breakfast was even worse. The mattress was rock hard, and I could hear the springs every time I moved. It felt very cheap, and I slept badly. I don’t expect much from a free hotel breakfast, but usually there’s at least oatmeal. Here, the only oatmeal had 13 grams of added sugar, and whole milk was the only option. No skim, low-fat, oat, or almond milk, and no healthy breakfast choices. I mentioned it at checkout, and the woman apologized, but there was no discount or honors points. I paid $180, which was too much for what I got.

The rooms were clean, the staff were friendly, and the breakfast buffet was fine. Nice hotel.
