The free breakfast was a nice plus, and the king bed was big and not too bad. The view was okay, though there isn’t much in Clinton to look at. But we arrived to pillowcases with no pillows and had to ask downstairs for some. A few things in the room didn’t work, and there’s no elevator, so I had to use the stairs. Downstairs was incredibly hot, maybe around 90 degrees in winter. Not sure if the heat was having a problem. It’ll do if you just need somewhere to sleep, but I wouldn’t pick it for a really nice stay.

The room was outdated and the bed wasn’t comfortable. We were the only guests, with just our car in the lot. There was no breakfast, so we had to eat out, and the vending machines were at the gas station, where we had to walk. I booked one night online, then chose to check in a day early. When I tried to cancel the second night online, they said I’d still be charged. I won’t be staying at Days Inn again.

For the low rate, I had a very good stay. The host was thoughtful and helpful, and my room was fine. A friend had to take a smoking room because nothing else was available and didn’t like it. Get a non-smoking room and you should be fine.

The room was in rough shape when we arrived: it smelled awful, the floors were filthy, and the toilet flushed properly only about one time in five. There was black water in a half-full trash can, blood on a sheet that we set aside, and empty McDonald’s cups on the table. The front desk also cussed us out for getting a room at midnight on our first night, even though they’re open 24/7. We heard the cussing under their breath. After putting up with that for a week, checkout turned into another mess. Their website offered late checkout for $20 or very late checkout until 3:00 p.m. for $40. I submitted the $40 request online and thought it was confirmed. At 11:00 a.m. on our last day, someone pounded on the door and yelled “checkout, checkout!” like the police. I explained the booking and that we’d been there more than a week, and they reluctantly let us stay until noon. We were finishing showers and cleaning the already-bad room, and asked for ten more minutes. They called the cops over that. By the time police knocked, our timer was nearly up and we were ready to leave. It was absurd and completely unprofessional to treat us like criminals over ten minutes. This location is an embarrassment to the Days Inn name.

When my work vehicle broke down in a severe storm on the way from Wilmington to Raleigh, the man on duty was helpful over the phone while I figured things out. I arrived even later, but check-in was quick and easy, and the front desk gentleman was accommodating. The clean non-smoking room was a good value, with a microwave, refrigerator, and TV all in good condition. The woman at checkout was friendly and great too. If I’m in the area again, I’ll stay here. For a last-minute stop, the staff and place were tops. I’d give the experience 10 stars!
