This is my usual stop in Clinton, Oklahoma. The hotel is fine, what you’d expect from a Holiday Inn Express in rural America. Rooms are clean, breakfast is good, and the location works well. This time, construction on Interstate 40 had blocked my usual way in. It wasn’t a big deal, but the hotel called before check-in to alert me, offered another route, and guided me right to the parking lot. I could’ve found the way myself, but that proactive service impressed me. Plenty of hotels do a good job, but this is the kind of care that keeps me coming back.

Jojo at the front desk was polite and got me settled quickly. My room was clean and maintained, the breakfast was nice, and I was comfortable during my stay. The hotel is aged, which makes sense since it’s been around awhile, but that wasn’t a problem for me. I’d read reviews before coming and wasn’t sure about staying, but my only reason for not giving five stars was the wifi. It wasn’t a dealbreaker, and I enjoyed the visit overall.

This was my second stay, and I’m an IHG member. It’ll be my last. The room was listed at 80 when I booked, but at check-in it was 98 plus tax. Two women were working the desk, and they’d given a key to someone who walked into another guest’s room. Nobody smiled or said hello. The woman at the computer told her coworker to give me my keys because she had to go “pee,” then walked away. The rooms are old and outdated, nothing like the clean white look in commercials or at other Holiday Inn’s. This place takes you right back to the 80s. I can’t say for sure the room was dirty, but it felt that way. There was hair in my shower, and the sink wouldn’t drain. I didn’t tell the desk because they seemed to hate their jobs and not care. Go elsewhere and spare yourself the letdown. Maybe try Hampton Inn across the road.

I really liked our short stay. The coffee station was my favorite, and breakfast had a tasty mix of pancakes, eggs, sausages, fresh fruit, and yogurt. The staff were so friendly and welcoming.

The staff were friendly and apologetic when I found the in-room coffee maker broken, and they replaced it. The room itself was clean and presentable, which I appreciated. Still, the older spring mattresses were quite uncomfortable, and the property could use some updates to make guests more comfortable.
