Embassy Suites by Hilton Atlanta Airport

Breakfast is a real plus, whether you want to fill up at the buffet or order something. The hotel is also handy for the airport, and the rooms are laid out pretty well. Parking each day costs a bit much. The carpets are filthy and need a steam cleaning, and the pool water is pretty murky. The bar and restaurant need someone there all the time. The poor girl working happy hour also has to clear the tables. Rooms with two beds look like they were designed for queens, but they have doubles instead, which isn’t great for couples. If those things were fixed, this would be a spectacular hotel. If you have more than one kid, skip the premium rooms. The food included for that extra price only covers two people at most.

At $250 a night, this was hard to justify. If it had been under $150, I’d have called it a great deal. Staff were mostly friendly, and they were nice about fixing a reservation after they booked two days and then deleted the second one. That part wasn’t a big problem. But five dresser drawers had no handles, the bedroom bulbs were harsh white, and we only had enough towels for two people to wash once even though we paid for four. Two items from the hotel restaurant took an hour to arrive. Parking lot lights were so bright, the blackout curtain couldn’t block them. I’m not trying to sound angry, but $250 for this? Really?

The breakfast had a good range of choices, and the made-to-order omelet station was great, though a few items weren’t very fresh. The room seemed like an older hotel that had been refurbished and was in poor shape. On our second night it flooded, ruining some things we’d left on the floor. The strong mold smell made it seem like this had happened before. Staff didn’t offer compensation because we booked through Expedia, though they did cover our parking.

I had an important talk at 9 a.m. and needed to leave at 7, so I planned to grab breakfast at the posted 6:30 start time. There wasn’t any breakfast out, and I had to leave without eating. The evening reception was another letdown. Guests had been waiting since the posted 5:30 time, but the snacks didn’t show up for over an hour. Getting checked in took more than an hour, with only about ten people ahead of me and two desk staff moving painfully slowly with each guest. The iron splattered water on my dress shirt and left rings, and the laundry room was completely shut down, so I couldn’t wash it. There were plenty of smaller issues too. The whole experience says this hotel is badly managed, and whoever runs it should be fired.
