Microtel Inn by Wyndham Atlanta Airport

All the staff we met during our week there were friendly, professional, and helpful. The room’s microwave worked, but it had no fridge, even though booking sites advertised one. If I extended my stay, I’d need them to provide a small fridge. My main suggestions are to clean the A/C fans properly, since they blew stale, dusty air, and to let the windows in both the room and hallway open a couple of inches for fresh air. Hallway air was stuffy and smelled of smoke from some rooms. The A/C did cool and heat, though. The TV picture was blurry and low quality, perhaps because the WiFi was slow, so the router or provider might need an upgrade. Friday night was noisier than the week, as expected. A woman next door yelled profanities into her phone during an argument for over half an hour around midnight. I complained once, and the front desk dealt with it. It was quiet after 12:30, and we could sleep. Guests also smoked weed or cigarettes outside, which is typical for clientele at budget places like Econo Lodge or Red Roof. Since we were on the third floor, smoke didn’t blow into our window A/C, as it often does at other hotels. I’d read the bad reviews before booking and expected a low-budget place like Econo Lodge or Red Roof. There was some hair in the bathroom and on the floor, possibly from former guests or cleaning staff, but with my autoimmune disease, I always mop hotel floors and disinfect surfaces when I arrive anyway. There aren’t standard outlets within six feet of the bed, but both sides have USB ports for phones and tablets, and the desk has regular laptop outlets. The WiFi was unstable at times, though using a VPN helped. The towels weren’t snow-white, but seemed clean and sanitized, hopefully with bleach. I was pleasantly surprised by the strong hot water at the sink and especially the powerful shower, which has one setting. It’s a simple walk-in shower with a low step, and the curtain was long enough to keep water from flooding the bathroom. The toilet flushed powerfully too, better than in some expensive hotels. I was glad they had a no-pet policy in 2025, one of the main reasons I picked it, so my service dog wouldn’t be bothered or barked at by uncontrolled pets. Still, my dog quietly alerted me that there must be a pet in room 318, sniffing it out and looking concerned.

Being close to the airport was the only good thing about this place. It’s dirty, neglected, and falling apart. When I arrived, the sheets, floor, and towel were all dirty, and housekeeping never came by to change anything. Disgusting.

I’m on a business trip, but I won’t stay here again. After DoorDash delivered my food, I asked the front desk woman for a fork and looked in the bag to check for one. She got up from her phone and told me not to eat at the desk. I explained I was looking for the fork, and she pointed to a table and said, “eat there,” then went back to sit in the dark. She was extremely rude, and the place didn’t feel comfortable.

I’ve been at the Microtel in Atlanta for nearly a week, and TO at the front desk has made the biggest difference. He’s been friendly and professional, helped us with everything we needed, and was always willing to go a little further to help. His service made us feel looked after. Big thanks to TO.
