Abbey Archway Inn

Severe weather canceled my train ticket from Anchorage, booked via Alaska Airlines, at the last minute, so I couldn't reach the hotel. As soon as I knew travel was impossible, I requested cancellation through Booking.com because of this force majeure situation. The hotel hasn't replied. When I called, staff said Booking.com had the authority to cancel, but Booking.com says it needs the hotel's approval before issuing a refund. I'm caught between the two and still can't get my money back for something completely outside my control.

Our short stay was enjoyable, though the bed could've been better.

Avoid this place if you're traveling and want a somewhat comfortable stay. We were checked in at Abby Archway Inn, then put in a very old, worn building at an intersection. The appliances and furniture seemed from the 80s, with stained, worn chairs and an ancient coffee machine. There was a paper filter but no coffee. The Jacuzzi looked appealing, but there was no stopper. The shower needs maintenance or replacement, since water leaked from the tap while I showered. It felt like a dungeon, and I wouldn't recommend staying here. There were a couple of things that worked: the kitchen had some utensils, the electric stove worked, and the lighting and suction system worked. The TV worked too.

We'd called ahead about our 2 a.m. arrival after a flight landing at Fairbanks airport at 1 a.m. A pleasant woman said to call once we got there and mentioned someone had checked in at 3:30 a.m. the previous day. But when we arrived and called, a man said he couldn't find our reservation and complained that people were trying to sleep at that hour. We had booked through Expedia, had a confirmation, and our card had been charged. Expedia confirmed the booking and payment, but the man wouldn't answer when they tried calling him. After more than 15 hours of travel, we had nowhere to stay that night. Don't book here, they didn't honor our reservation.
