Scottish Inns Collinsville-Martinville

Management was unpleasant and unprofessional, and I had to wait outside for more than 30 minutes to check in while it was 17 degrees. Maybe the owner had to be woken up. Check-in is listed as 8 a.m. to midnight. This was one of the worst motels I've stayed in, and that's saying something. It's a dive with no comfort at all. Save your money and go somewhere else. Sleeping in a car would be more suitable.

It smelled awful and was terribly unclean. The tub tile was black, the sink was stained, and the toilet seat was the wrong one and slid sideways when you sat on it. I told them to keep my payment and spend it on a new AC and a couple gallons of paint. We checked out after the first night, and thankfully they did refund us.

The sheets had strange marks and stains when I got to the room. We took off the first blanket, which seemed fine, but the brown blanket underneath had odd marks too. I went to the front desk to ask for fresh sheets. The woman was rude, stormed off, and told me to follow her back to my room. She checked the bed, rubbed one of the marks off, and said nothing was wrong with the blanket. I just needed clean sheets, but got rude service instead. As she left, she said, “tell your mother to never rent from us again.” After this, I won't.

My husband Dennis Crews has stayed here several times and never had a complaint about the rooms or service. When he first came to Martinsville to meet me and vacation, he chose this hotel. We're locals from Stuart, VA, and stayed here during the winter storm in case the power went out, so we'd be safer and warm. For an affordable, budget-friendly short stay, the rooms are efficient enough. The shower had good hot water, the TV had Xfinity cable, there were enough outlets for a phone or other USB devices, and the beds were comfortable to me. I've never seen the roaches some people claim to find. I don't get all the negative reviews about a reasonably priced hotel. If you expect total luxury, a small hotel like this isn't for you.
