Hilton Garden Inn Richmond South/Southpark

For the money, this is the best stay around here. I've been coming to the area every month for three years and have tried hotels all over, including this Hilton about ten times. The rooms are clean and nice, and the staff are great and always willing to help. No real complaints from me.

The gym has great, roomy spaces, and the rooms are good too. I came to Richmond for work for several months and tried a few hotels near my work site before settling on this one. Anthony is reliably at check-in, and he's pleasant, helpful, and efficient. The dining area staff are always great as well. My work travel here is done now, but I appreciated the hospitality.

The room was comfortable and very clean, and the on-site pub has decent food. The one thing that disappointed me was the $5.00 self-parking fee. Given the room rates, I expected parking to be included.

After a 10 hour drive, I had to wait while the woman at the desk finished a personal conversation with a guest in the lobby before pulling up my reservation. She gave me no eye contact and was snarky when I asked about the $5 parking charge. I joked about paying to park in the middle of nowhere in Virginia, and she said Diamond members pay too. Then she asked for my car's make, model, color, plate number, and state, but still handed me a parking pass. The dates she entered were Dec 12/out dec 12. I wasn't going to leave my bags and walk all the way back to correct it. As a Hilton Diamond member with a Hilton Amex, I got no snacks or water like at other Hiltons, just a room key before she returned to chatting with the guest. The room itself was OK, with a nice mattress and interior design, but the toilet kept running and I had to fix it. The worst part was food left in the fridge, which looked like it had been there for over a week and may still be there. Disgusting. This was a typical crap hotel stay in the middle of nowhere outside Richmond, VA, and my status clearly meant nothing.
