Motel 6 Columbia - East

We picked this place because a lot of other Columbia hotels were pricey, and for what we paid it was good enough. The room had a hard floor instead of carpet, which I liked. It seemed clean, though the floor could’ve used a bit more attention. No shampoo was provided, but single-use packs were for sale in the downstairs vending machine for $1.50. Haha. There’s no breakfast, just coffee, though Clark Lane has plenty of quick, affordable options and there’s a local diner near the hotel. The bed was VERY firm. Some TV channels were missing or glitchy. It was a stormy night, and I think they use satellite TV. A basic Motel 6, and a decent choice if the price is reasonable.

The staff made check-in quick and welcoming, and the location was convenient. My room was spotless and the property looked well cared for. For the price, I got a comfortable stay and more than I expected. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for an affordable place.

I had booked weeks ahead, but when I arrived they said the only room left had a sink that didn’t work. The safety bolt on the door was broken off, too. I paid about $250 for one night, and at checkout I was told the manager, whom I never met, had taken $45 off for the inconvenience. Apparently that’s what a broken sink is worth to them. I only stayed because there weren’t any rooms anywhere else in town. It was desperation.

Jay has always been great about the little details and going the extra mile for my crew. The rooms are clean even while the place is being renovated, and this doesn’t feel like the other Motel 6s I’ve dealt with. I wish other hotels had managers and staff like Jay and his team.
