Candlewood Suites Columbus North – Worthington by IHG

It’s a decent location, just one exit from where I was working, but that was about the only good part. Because the elevators weren’t working properly, they moved me from the King Studio Suite I booked to a Queen Studio Suite on the first floor. I’d usually be okay with a downgrade, but they charged the same rate for the smaller bed and room. I texted back a 2 out of 5 when asked about my stay, and got no reply or acknowledgment. Check-in took 10 minutes, which I timed, and the guy at the desk seemed new or unsure what he was doing. There was no TV remote in my room, and the bathroom sign said their top priority was cleanliness even though, it also said, rooms are serviced only once a week. I got just one towel, one hand towel, and a washcloth, and there was hair in the shower that clearly wasn’t mine. I chose this place based on its good reviews and was really disappointed.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and I’d definitely stay again. My suite was great, like a small efficiency, with a kitchenette that had a mini stove, dishwasher, microwave, and full-size fridge. It also had a recliner, desk, real silverware, plates, bowls, and glasses. The bathroom was huge, and the bed was pretty comfortable.

Ashley was working the night I checked in, and she was wonderful. She helped arrange the room I wanted, in the middle of the floor, with my friend’s room right next to mine. When something came up with the gym, she went to check it herself and really tried to make sure I was comfortable and satisfied. I stayed here in December last year and had a great experience. The hotel was very nice and extremely clean, and everyone on staff was friendly and helpful. I’d definitely recommend it.

Our family trip turned into a headache, and I won’t stay here again. The first room was so hot that they had to move us. The next one still wasn’t comfortable, and maintenance had to come in and out several times to work on the system. I booked through booking.com with a credit card, and the payment was processed. At check-in they said we also needed to pay a $100 incidental charge, so I used my debit card. After checkout, my account showed a pending room total on the debit card too. The “front desk manager” said it had been routed incorrectly on their end and that I’d have to wait 3-5 business days for the money back. She blamed the system and someone else, although she was the same person who checked in my family and me. The general manager then tried to say it wasn’t their mistake, even though I have the proof in my bank account. Be careful making a reservation here.
