The room was near the interstate, but the stay was underwhelming, mostly because check-in hospitality was poor. There were dirty sheets in my room. Housekeeping replaced them promptly and brought fresh towels, but said the linens were clean and just permanently stained. Management should invest in new linens and update the outdated lobby.
The hotel was filthy, and you could smell weed as soon as you walked in. Our first room was 45, and when we told the front desk we needed another, they argued with us. They handed us towels and other things that should already have been in the room. Breakfast was a joke, and the hallways were dirty with trash and debris. The beds were made, but looked like a five-year-old had done it. This location is a disgrace to the brand. I’ll never come back.
The best thing was the airport transfer. The hotel reserves an Uber to and from the CMH terminal. The rest of our one-night stay before our trip to LA was a letdown. Our room was much too cold in early December, and the thermostat needed someone from the front desk to remove its cover to adjust it. One bed had a sheet stained with something that looked like lime green jello. We had a 7 a.m. flight and just wanted sleep before our 4:30 a.m. ride. In the morning there were no towels at all, not even a washcloth. We weren’t planning to shower, but would’ve liked something to dry our faces and hands after washing. We’d arranged the airport ride with the front desk the night before, but when we showed up at the agreed time, the desk person struggled to get an Uber. A fellow traveler had booked his own ride through the hotel the previous day and kindly let us join him. I won’t stay here again.
We are following up about our stay at Country Inn & Suites – Columbus Airport (2900 Airport Dr., Columbus, OH), Friday, November 7 through Sunday, November 9, 2025. We came to town for the Kingdom Image Awards, where Just Mic “Da Poet” was performing and I, Iyonna Ware, was the Red Carpet Correspondent. Rest mattered, but room problems and repeated key failures caused ongoing disturbances and lost sleep. This could have jeopardized both of our professional assignments, which we had invested in personally and financially. Our key failed from the start. We went up and down the stairs five times after being told it had been reprogrammed, but it kept happening. Every time we left, we had to return to the desk for another key. A staff gentleman eventually let us in, but the trouble continued. We asked for another room and were told none were available. The heat in our first room also didn’t work properly. Even though we were told it was set to 90 degrees, the room stayed cold; our noses and fingertips were freezing, and our throats started to hurt. We sent a complaint letter to this same email address on Saturday, November 8, while still at the hotel. At checkout, a staff member whose name was either Gary or Gill acknowledged it and said a refund for one full night would be processed Monday, November 10, because of the service problems and disruptions. We were also told we’d get a follow-up call after it was done. When we called Monday as instructed, manager Gill said he knew nothing about our situation. We resent the letter so the details and refund promise were documented. On that call, he repeatedly said the property was “in transition,” there were “a lot of issues with the hotel,” and our rate was discounted. We understand the hotel may be going through changes, but that doesn’t remove its responsibility to keep its word. Guests shouldn’t have to bear the burden of internal problems. We were told clearly that one full night would be refunded. Reducing that commitment to an offer of 20%, about $16, is unacceptable. We are holding the hotel to the agreement, not just asking for goodwill compensation. We have written and verbal proof. Please honor the original full-night refund promptly and in full. If this isn’t resolved, we intend to pursue the matter to the full extent of the law. Failing to honor the commitment made would be unjust and unethical business practice. Please see our original complaint below for context and record. Original Complaint, sent November 8, 2025, while on the property Country Inn & Suites – Columbus Airport Subject: Urgent Room & Key Complaint – Request for Resolution Dear Manager, We need to report a very frustrating stay from the beginning. The key wouldn’t work, and after being told it was reprogrammed, we walked up and down the stairs five times. The issue kept happening, and each time we left the room we had to go to the front desk to get the key replaced. A gentleman on staff kindly let us in eventually, but the problem continued. We asked to move rooms and were told there weren’t any available. My partner was performing that weekend at the Kingdom Image Awards, which is why we came to town. He needed to rest before the event, but the continuing key issues and the cold first room made that impossible. We were told the heat was set to 90 degrees, yet the room stayed cold. Our noses and fingertips were freezing, and our throats began to hurt.
Both rooms we booked were dirty. There was hair in the showers, used tea bags on the desk, strange black spots on the white bedding, and trash wedged between the mattress and wall. The carpet was obviously dirty too. Our sink wouldn’t drain; someone came to fix it but left the area dirty afterward. The rooms smelled like a pot farm, and the ice bucket had what looked like a booger on it. I asked for another one, but I’m pretty sure the employee brought back the same bucket after walking away. The showers had brown stains all over. I wouldn’t stay here.
