Roxy Hotel New York

The Roxy has plenty going for it, especially the staff, lively atmosphere, movie theater, and live music. But sleep is the basic job of a hotel, and our room failed at that. From 1 to 4 a.m., techno from the nightclub shook the room so much that the bed seemed to pulse with the bass. We had the built-in noise machine in room 219 turned all the way up, but the room still vibrated at what felt like 140 beats per minute for hours. I called the front desk at 3:30 a.m. and was told cheerfully that the noise should stop in another half hour. I explained that my girlfriend and I hadn't slept since 1. They apologized politely, but there was no follow-up or offer of any concession. Having worked at a hotel with noisy rooms, I know some kind of compensation, such as breakfast or a discount, would have been appropriate. At nearly $1,000 a night, there are lots of downtown NYC options without a nightclub thumping through your room. The Roxy seems to know this is an issue, since it installed the noise machine. At minimum, guests should get a warning or a discount. If you stay here, ask what's happening that night and avoid the lower floors.

The subway is right nearby, so getting around the city took just minutes. We were also happy spending time inside the hotel, with its warm jazz atmosphere, live music feel, and food that was excellent. The lamb chops were especially good, cooked just right and beautifully presented. Our Two-Bedroom Deluxe was spotless, spacious, and comfortable, with a layout that gave us room to relax and a nice blend of New York character and modern comforts. The staff were welcoming, attentive, and accommodating. The Roxy Hotel made the whole stay feel memorable, and we'd definitely return.

Zillah at the front desk made check-in quick and easy, welcomed us warmly with drinks, and was both personable and knowledgeable. Her service was one of the best parts of the trip. We loved the suite, especially the gorgeous main bedroom and the couch that converted into a bed. There was a working vintage record player and a Marshall amp, plus some really cool albums to play. The location was great too, just a block from the Canal Street subway, with Brooklyn only three stops away. The Roxy Hotel New York may become our regular place in NYC.

The service made this stay for me. Nick welcomed me at the front desk, Roger carried my bags up, and Abul handled the room service. Everyone was warm, and the whole stay felt exceptional. The room was very clean and the bed was so comfortable. I loved the hotel's modern Roaring 20s look, and having a restaurant and bar, live jazz club, movie theater, and nightclub all in one place was great. They also had live music during the day outside the jazz club. I'd absolutely recommend The Roxy, 10 out of 10.
