Hilton Garden Inn Columbus-University Area

The staff made this stay for us. Their service was professional, courteous, and friendly, and when I decided we should stay one more night before heading home, they arranged for us to keep the same room. We were there through an OSU hospital program while my son had surgery, and my commute back and forth was over 80 miles. The room did what we needed, though ours could use some updating. Each time the A/C kicked on, the HVAC unit blew dirt fibers within about a three-foot radius. It was early March, and I'd set the A/C to 73, so maybe the system hadn't had its maintenance yet. The location was great for the hospital, with Bob Evans, a mexican restaurant, and Roosters within walking distance. The program included breakfast vouchers for made-to-order items from the menu. Breakfast isn't free, even continental, so that may not work for a big family on a budget. Still, we had a pleasant stay, and top-notch service made the smaller issues easier to accept.

The area around the hotel was quiet, and the pool looked clean, though we didn't use it. In our room there was hair on the sink, the desk was coming apart, and the entry light switch didn't turn anything on or off. Our door only had a deadbolt. Some of the doors along the way to our room had plastic on them. That first night, after we checked in and went to bed, loud banging from a floor below shook our floor. The first-floor restroom around the corner from check-in was dirty too. There were no paper towels or toilet paper, urine and dried urine on the seat, and a dirty floor.

The beds were comfortable, the pool was very clean, and the service was great. I especially liked the big bathroom towels and the full-size bottles of body wash, shampoo, and conditioner. They smelled amazing and were sulfate-free. My husband and I are here for Valentine's Day weekend, and it's been a wonderful choice.

The bathroom had mildew, and the water pressure was very low. The shower head couldn't be adjusted, so I had to shower facing the mildew wall. The mini fridge made noise all night, one of the two beds was broken, and the box spring covers showed how old the beds were, with one half off. They gave me a handicap accessible room because there were no other rooms that met what I needed. It was spacious, but I wasn't happy with it at all. This was one of the worst Hilton branded hotels I've stayed in.
