The stairs to the apartment were covered in ice when I arrived. No one had de-iced them, and getting in or out felt extremely dangerous. Someone came and put salt down, but it didn’t work. I know Ohio’s winter has been rough and ice comes with living there, but this staircase was treacherous, with huge icicles and no real fix. Since it wasn’t safe to use the building, I asked for a refund and was denied. I left early. Before I arrived, I’d already had concerns about an email asking me to pay a $59 nonrefundable fee or accept a $300 hold on my credit card to get my access code. I’d never run into this with another short-term stay. I said it felt exploitative to add another nonrefundable charge after I’d paid, and they replied that it was in the agreement I’d signed. I posted about what happened on Hotels.com, where I booked. After they failed to fix the situation, they called and texted me several times asking me to take down the review. Based on my experience, I’d look elsewhere and wouldn’t be fooled by the lower price.

Calling these places “luxury” feels way off. The lofts are old, with thick paint covering obvious flaws like cracks in the walls. The tub is missing pieces from the bottom, and the windows, vents, and the view beyond them are filthy. There’s a strong pee and mildew smell, which is wild in a place full of plants. These modern tenement-like “jungle lofts” are an insult to actual jungles. If you’re after gritty Gotham City vibes with Amazon-style furniture, this might be your spot.

For our anniversary, my husband surprised me with a stay at Jungle House. It turned into one of our best short trips. We spent most of the time outside, enjoying the quiet, private atmosphere. The cozy feel doesn’t seem forced, and the place was relaxing in person in a way the photos can’t quite show. A lovely spot to unplug for a while.

Such an easy, enjoyable stay. The space had a great feel, and the host was really helpful. We’d come back 😊

Jungle House Historic Lofts German Village was a comfortable place to come back to after walking around Columbus. Restaurants, coffee shops, and some of the area’s best spots were close by. Check-in was easy, and the loft worked well as a home base whether we were out exploring or taking it easy inside. I’d recommend it and stay again.
