Wingate by Wyndham Columbus

The staff were kind throughout our stay, and the lobby was clean and nicely decorated. Our room was a different story: there was hair around the bathroom, the tub was still dirty, and the carpet had heavy staining.

The bed and pillows were comfortable, and the room had plenty of space, though I wish it had brighter lighting. There were stains on the sheets, but they didn't seem dirty, so I slept on them. I also found a used cup on the windowsill and a couple of stray hairs in the bathroom. Apart from those things, the room was clean. Check-in went smoothly and the lobby looked nice. The parking lot could use more lighting. Our room was cold when we came in, which was actually great since we didn't have to wait for it to cool down. I'd return and would recommend the place.

Breakfast was a nice perk, with waffles you make yourself plus eggs, sausage, cereal, drinks, fruit, and muffins. The prices were reasonable, though the stay felt like you get what you pay for. Our room keys both failed at first, so we had to go back to the desk for a reset. One comforter had a stain, and housekeeping came up to replace the bedding. Other relatives found hairs in the shower and stains on towels that were supposed to be clean, so they asked the desk for another room. I called for more towels later, but housekeeping had already left. They only work from 10-1pm if you need them. The indoor pool needed better upkeep: there were no towels, paint was peeling into the water, a ladder step was missing, and it seemed like there was too much chlorine. It's a decent enough hotel, but I probably wouldn't come back.

Wanda at the desk was the one bright spot. Our Friday arrival became a mess because the computer showed no rooms, even though I'd called to confirm both our reservation and late arrival. The room she eventually found hadn't been cleaned: the toilet was unflushed, beds were unmade, trash was scattered around, and the smell was awful. The hall had garbage bags in it too. Wanda checked the room and agreed it was nasty; there were other late guests whose rooms weren't ready either. She did everything she could to find us a clean room, and the one we got was at least clean. Still, the curtains wouldn't close, paint was peeling and splattered on the walls and bathroom light, the TV and stand had wipe marks from a dirty rag, and the toilet seat was broken. At breakfast the next morning, the trash can had no liner and was covered, and I got scolded as if I should have known. I was pointed to an overflowing bin instead. Someone staying in the lobby asked if I wanted a smoking partner, though I don't smoke, and the breakfast area was dirty. Wanda was absolutely amazing, but everything else was deeply disappointing and far below what I've come to expect from Wyndham properties.
