The Centennial

It was an extremely cold weekend, and the heat couldn't keep up. Our room was 61 degrees, with an even colder bathroom, and wind whistled through the windows. They brought us a space heater, but we couldn't use it while sleeping, so the room was cold again by morning. We won't return.

We booked this place because Concord Hospital listed it for discounted lodging, and it's the closest hotel to the hospital. It's a beautiful old building, so it's probably not for someone who wants a modern hotel. The restaurant on site was convenient and the food was good. We were told before arriving that the elevator was out, so they had to move our room. My son was on crutches, and although I'd reserved an accessible room, we still had six steps to enter and leave, and the shower had no support bars, so it wasn't safe for him. We made it work, but it wasn't ideal. I'd stay here again if I needed to be in Concord.

The building is beautiful, but I can't speak for the other floors. Avoid the first floor if you want to sleep, the noise went on all day. The room was small for the price, there was no microwave access in the room, and during single digit weather we couldn't set the heater above 72.

The location made it easy to walk to downtown Concord restaurants and attractions. Our room was spotless, the bed was comfortable, and the historic atmosphere was great. We were pleasantly surprised to find a fitness center and continental breakfast, since those aren't always available at historic hotels. The front desk staff gave us helpful local recommendations and handled a special request for our room.
