Studio 6 Concord, CA

I came in on Thursday afternoon, August 8th, at the last minute because a leak in my condo has left it under construction. The room was a good deal at $123 a night with taxes and surcharge, and I had a great stay. It's a modern, clean facility with free Wi-Fi, plenty of space, and a location I’d rate around 80% for walkability. Shops and restaurants are close, and there are bus lines in front. The pool was closed for maintenance this summer, according to the sign in the lobby. The room was around the corner from the lobby. It felt like a small apartment, with a kitchen, stove, microwave, refrigerator, big bathroom, huge walk-in closet, and extra storage by the bathroom that could even fit a bicycle. Laundry is down the hall, since there’s no washer or dryer in the room. My room faced north, so I could hear cars going by, but it didn't bother me because I sleep without my hearing aids. There was just a table and chair in the kitchen. I wish the bedroom had a computer desk by the TV, so someone could work while watching TV or eating, and better lighting. The patio had no table or chairs, so bring a folding chair if you want to sit outside. It took me a moment to figure out the heating and air conditioning controls. For cooling, turn the blue button and press the lower fan button. I kept the room extra cool by closing the other door. The front desk check-in took a while because of a misunderstanding: I said one night, but was charged for two. They fixed it and credited me back for one night. For buses, routes 14 and 16 run free Monday through Friday and go to Concord BART. The free 314 runs on weekends to Concord BART. Route 14 across the street, outbound, goes to Pleasant Hill BART and Walnut Creek Park. Route 16 across the street, outbound, goes to downtown Pleasant Hill and the Amtrak station in Martinez. Downtown Pleasant Hill has fancy restaurants, shops, and movie theaters. The outbound 314 across the street only goes to Diablo Valley College. The only things I'd improve are adding a desk in the bedroom by the TV and a table and chairs on the patio.

We couldn't check in, and I'm glad we didn't end up staying. The clerk checked both our IDs, then shouted through the bulletproof glass that my friend couldn't stay because, according to him, he'd smeared human feces on the walls during a previous visit. Neither of us had ever been to the property or stayed there before. I'm sharing this so other travelers know how management treated us. Zero stars.

The front desk attendant was rude and disrespectful to customers. Instead of explaining the problem, he told us to figure it out. After our reservation was confirmed, he offered a sarcastic apology. I won't stay here again or recommend it to anyone who expects respectful service.

The housekeeping could definitely be better, and the front desk guy was kind of rude too, though I guess that's how they all are nowadays. Aside from that, I like the place. The rooms are huge, with a nice kitchenette and a big bathroom around the corner. There's plenty of room for kids to run around, I'd imagine. There's a front patio, though not much you can do out there, and a nice pool. If the room is clean when I arrive, that's what matters to me, since a lot of Motel 6 places don't manage that. Otherwise, it's a nice motel.
