Days Inn & Suites by Wyndham Conroe North

The front desk staff were professional and very nice, and the hotel is centrally located with several places to eat within walking distance. It’s decent if you’re not picky, but it needs a lot of basic maintenance and updating. The room had carpet, which I can’t remember seeing in a hotel lately. One curtain was partly detached and missing its slide rod, so we couldn’t close it all the way. We were on the first floor near the entrance, with plenty of foot traffic. The toilet flapper kept sticking, making noise and wasting water. The TV stand was faulty, so the screen leaned left and couldn’t be straightened. My biggest disappointment was that the hotel was advertised as smoke-free, but it wasn’t. Cigarette odor hit us as soon as we entered the room. I told the front desk right away because we don’t smoke and I didn’t want to be blamed for someone else’s smell. The clerk offered to move us, but I declined. I was in Conroe for a preventative medical procedure and didn’t want to deal with stairs or a longer walk down the hall afterward. Around 3 a.m. on the first night, I got up to use the bathroom and had to fix the toilet. While I was doing that, cigarette smell started coming in. I think an employee was using the common area bathroom next to our room as a smoking lounge. Not cool. Thankfully, I brought a candle and got rid of the smell. Breakfast was just a honey bun if you wanted a pastry. No fruit or oatmeal packets, and it’s a horribly unhealthy option. There was no other breakfast. It’s not a bad hotel, but it needs TLC.
