Courtyard Miami in Coral Gables by Marriott

The room had been updated and looked modern, but the rest of the building felt dark and somewhat dated. I also don’t think this is marketed appropriately as a four-star hotel, so I couldn’t give it five stars. None of us, including my two colleagues, slept well. Maybe it was the bed, the AC struggling to reach my 68 degree setting, or the sound of cars passing outside. A certain stick fell off with normal use, which wasn’t a big deal, but added to my sense that four stars is a generous rating. The stay itself was fine.

The location is quiet, close to amenities, and an easy walk from Miracle Mile and several restaurants. But service could be more helpful and responsive. Apart from one gentleman, the front desk staff were remarkably unhelpful, and after asking three times for fresh towels, I finally went and got them myself. We stayed eight nights and requested housekeeping every other day, which I understand. We only got two visits, both after 4pm, and the first didn’t come until day four. At check-in, nobody gave us details about the bistro or pool hours, checkout time, or housekeeping. The pool was closed for renovations, and guests weren’t told.

The location is perfect, with restaurants, bars, and Publix nearby. Amelia at the front desk was so nice, polite, and helpful. She gave me directions and suggestions for places to go in Miami. The women in the coffee area were the best, too. I enjoyed a nice breakfast and Starbucks coffee, even though I’m not a fan of it. The only downside was the pool area, which looked terrible.

The room was spotless and surprisingly quiet, and we slept right through on the peaceful street. Breakfast was fresh and satisfying. Check-in was almost instant, smooth and efficient, with staff who were kind and professional. For the price, the comfort and service feel like a real steal. I’d happily book again.
