For the price and what I needed, I’d stay again if I had to. The staff were friendly and the lobby was clean. The continental breakfast was okay, nothing to brag about. The room was mostly clean, except for a wadded up Kleenex by the AC/Heater that looked like it had fallen out of someone’s pocket. The beds weren’t very comfortable, and there were only two flat pillows per bed. There was no elevator.

The free shuttle runs twice an hour to the University of iowa hospitals and the VA hospital. Guests can also use the laundry room, with two washers and two dryers, and there’s a hotel size pool. Breakfast is free with a broad selection, and the dining staff were friendly and accommodating. My room was fantastic, with a comfortable bed, refrigerator, and microwave, and the bathroom was top notch. The property has been updated.

The place itself is great, but the pool was much too cold. The front desk told me it was maintained at 80 degrees, yet when I got in, it felt around 55-60. I called again, and the guy said he’d let the maintenance team know. An hour later, when I called back, he said maintenance wouldn’t be back for three days.

The staff are always helpful and wonderful. There’s free breakfast and a complimentary evening meal, plus a free shuttle to the main University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and the VA Medical Center. It runs M-F 0530-8:30PM and S-S 0900-5pm. If you call and have an appointment at U of I Hospital or the VA, ask for the hospital rate.

The shower barely worked as a shower, with more water spraying from the tub spout than the shower head, even after I tried it several times. We’d paid extra for a room with a hot tub, but the water in the whole room went ice cold, so the tub was basically an ice bath. The smoke detector chirped all night too.
