Econo Lodge Cordele

We arrived around 1am and got a reasonable price for one room with two beds for three people. The room was clean and comfortable, with no bugs, and the shower was hot. The cleaning could’ve been better, though: there were some candy wrappers and a child’s flash cards left by the previous occupants. Better pillows would help too.

The floor looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in weeks, and I found crumbs and a dirty sock under the AC. The shower looked like it hadn’t seen bleach in years, and the whole room smelled like a boys locker room. It was filthy. Thankfully, a friend paid for me to stay at The Lux next door.

Nothing fancy, just a pretty standard place. You have to ask for your room to be cleaned. I’d avoid coming from late May through early July, though, because migrant workers arrive for watermelon picking. There are hundreds of them, and rooms fill up fast.

The sheets were stained, nowhere near white, and had several holes. The toilet was dirty, and there was something growing in every corner where the tub met the wall. The floors were filthy too. We stopped at 3 a.m. during a long drive, after several other hotels told us they were booked. We’d stayed at an Econo Lodge before without any problems, but this time we only lasted 3 hours. My husband slept fully dressed on top of the blankets, and I sat on the edge of the bed too scared to sleep. The overflowing dumpster near the building and the pile of trash beside it should have warned us. The air conditioner was very loud and kept blowing cold air even when set to 76. At checkout, the manager seemed unfazed and sarcastic when I told him what we’d found. I took pictures. The health department should close this place down.
