Courtyard by Marriott Corpus Christi

I don't usually write reviews, but the staff here made me want to. Everyone I met, from check-in to the cleaning team and coffee bar, was exceptionally friendly. The hotel is very well managed. It's not by the beach, there aren't great views, and some updates would help, but it was very clean. Five stars from me for the amazing people working here. Five-star hotels should take note. I'll come back if I'm in the area.

The check-in attendant was incredibly welcoming, the neighborhood seemed safe, and there are plenty of restaurants nearby. I was in town for a photo shoot the next day and chose this courtyard by the hospital. I've stayed at a few of these properties in Texas, and it was about what I expected, pretty nice for the price. The property was clean. The parking lot confused me at first, and a few large rigs were blocking the entrance, but I figured it out and they didn't stop me. My room was spotless, though a bit dated in places with a few scuffs on the roof. I think parking cost about five dollars, and the lot was well lit at night. The one thing I didn't like was how dark the far back west side of the property was when I went for a walk at night, but that's just my opinion. I'll stay here again, since I usually choose the Holiday Inn Express just down the road.

The staff were polite and responsive throughout, so I might give this Courtyard Marriott another try. Still, there were a number of problems during my birthday weekend. My ADA-accessible room had a dead roach on the floor, and the toilet needed a new fill valve. The desk handled the repair quickly. The listing said king bed, but the bed was actually a queen. The roll-in shower worked, though its shower head needed a longer extension to be fully accessible to someone sitting on the bench. We didn't know the hotel allowed pets, and a guest next door had a barking puppy on our second night. Staff dealt with the noise after we told them. There was no free breakfast or snacks, which was inconvenient for many guests, and reaching the parking lot was confusing because we had to drive around a separate hotel. At checkout, a fire drill started at 7 AM because of an incident in the kitchen. Guests got no updates or explanation. The hotel should have a clear safety communication plan, especially for guests with disabilities.

The room was clean, and the rest of the staff and the manager were very accommodating. Sandra was especially pleasant and supportive while I was going through a difficult time. I had an amazing day there, and I'm grateful to Courtyard Marriott for the kindness when I needed it.
