Cottage Grove Inn

Our night was ruined, and I ended up leaving the motel altogether because of how this was handled. I found a cigarette butt on the sitting chair as soon as I sat down in the room. Earlier, I'd called ahead about a staycation and specifically asked whether the hot tub was working, whether we could use it fully, and whether there was a time limit. They said it was fine, and I confirmed again at check-in. After dinner and drinks, we went to use it. There was no rule mentioned to us about alcohol, only a sign recommending against drinking while in the tub. The jets were loud, and the tub is right beside the road, freeway, and a TRUCK STOP, so it was noisy outside anyway. Another guest we didn't know joined us, and we chatted, laughed, and told stories. About an hour in, the front desk woman asked us to quiet down. We agreed and tried our best. Around 15 minutes later she returned, said we were still too loud, and told us they were shutting the tub down for the night. I said I'd asked about a time limit when booking, and now I was being told to get out. With the traffic and jets, I could barely hear her. After some back and forth, we reluctantly agreed to leave. While we were gathering our things, a man came out and threatened to call the police if we didn't get out. I told him we were collecting our belongings, but he said we'd been drinking and that he'd call. He claimed we hadn't read the post, though there was nothing saying alcohol wasn't allowed and no one mentioned it when I asked questions. I was shocked by how rude both of them were when we were easygoing older guests trying to have a good night and enjoy company. Very disappointed.

The hotel is older, but it's well kept, and our room was very clean. We were welcomed warmly, and the staff suggested Jack Sprouts for dinner. It was relaxing and the food was delicious. Breakfast was nicely presented and delicious, with hot food kept hot and cold food kept cold. The coffee was good, too. We enjoyed our stay and would come back if we're in the area.

Getting on and off the freeway was easy, and the beds were very comfortable. Breakfast was included and good. The pet fee was misleading, though. The listing said “king pet friendly” and cost $25 more than the regular King room, so I assumed that included the pet fee. It didn't, which seemed pretty ridiculous.

Breakfast was excellent, with the hot food regularly checked for both quantity and quality. We stayed last week at the Cottage Grove Inn in a clean, reasonably priced room with a king bed and a jacuzzi tub big enough for two. It also had a refrigerator, microwave, and TV. We'll use this hotel again.
