The room was grimy, with strange dark stains on the floor and obvious cigarette burns in the blankets. But the worst part happened around midnight: someone tried to come into our room while my girlfriend and I were inside, and we were terrified. Once we told them they had the wrong room, they left. Then hotel staff knocked right afterward and explained there was a booking problem. We’d reserved ahead, but apparently weren’t in the system, so they tried to give our room to someone else. They offered no compensation, just said, “Our bad, y’all can go back to sleep,” at 1 a.m. It was Valentine’s Day, and I had a five-hour drive back to my home state after barely sleeping and feeling shaken. This was the first time anything like this had happened, and it’ll be the last. I’m never booking Comfort Inn again. The place felt trashy even apart from that awful night.
