We were heading to Legoland and stayed here after the Hyatt House 8 miles away was full. Sara at the front desk sorted out our rebooking, and we found a clean property with pleasant, helpful staff. I’d still lean toward Hyatt House with a toddler, but this place turned out to be a nice surprise. The local roads were slow, though getting to I-84 was fine. It’s about 40-50 minutes from Legoland. There’s a pool, gym, free breakfast and parking, plus a night bar. A+ and I’d stay again.

That breakfast area really stood out. It had the cozy feel of somebody’s home kitchen, and the food was better than we expected. We booked Hyatt Place Poughkeepsie at the last minute, so the friendly staff and clean, comfortable room were a welcome surprise too.

After the alarms and evacuation, we couldn’t get back to our room and had to leave the property. We were put outside in a snowstorm, including families with infants. The flooding had started around 4:30 p.m. on January 25th, and a mandatory evacuation followed at about 5:00. It was slow and poorly managed. We have video of what happened. The stress from the alarms, evacuation, and exposure to the weather left us needing to schedule a medical appointment for our six month old, who had ongoing distress and ear related symptoms. We also couldn’t get a refund. We contacted Jason, the manager, several times about the refund and personal belongings left behind during the evacuation, including headphones and keys. He said he’d look into it, then never followed up. The lack of communication, accountability, and concern for guest safety was unacceptable. This was extremely disappointing and stressful, and based on our experience, we wouldn’t recommend the property.

The main problem for me was how much sound carried between rooms and floors. I heard late night TV and a child crying next door, plus footsteps from upstairs into the early hours, which made it hard to sleep. Light sleepers should keep that in mind. Otherwise, the hotel felt fresh, bright, and well kept. The rooms have clean lines, neutral colors, a plush bed, and a practical layout with a sectional seating area. Staff were friendly and check-in was easy. Breakfast was complimentary, with hot items, fruit, yogurt, and strong coffee. Hyatt Place Poughkeepsie sits on the Route 9 commercial corridor and worked well as a base for exploring the Hudson Valley, visiting family, or checking out nearby colleges. It’s modern, comfortable, and convenient, though I’d ask for a quiet room if uninterrupted sleep matters. Four stars.

I had to leave in the middle of the night because the room I was given had no working heat. Hyatt corporate repeatedly asked the hotel to refund my payment, but the operations manager refused. From other reviews, it looks like refusing refunds and deposits may be a pattern here. Be warned, it’s a franchise property, not owned by Hyatt. If they refuse to return your money, you won’t have recourse through Hyatt.
