Days Inn by Wyndham Cullman

The heat worked, at least. The bed felt like partly set concrete, and there were grease stains on the towels. The shower was its own adventure: the striker was falling out, making the door hard to close, and the knob just spun unless you found the right spot to set it for the water temperature. I assume the previous guest took the in-room coffee maker. If you need a cheap place to nap, this is it, but the wall had some splatter on it that left me wondering what it was.

We had two more days stuck here, and I really don't appreciate being misled, especially about an accessible room. I reserved a handicap room with a walk-in shower for my husband, who's a 100 percent disabled veteran, but there was no accessible room and no walk-in shower. The room looked clean but dingy and didn't match the website. It had an empty Kleenex box, one bath towel and no shower mats. I called the booking company, and they could only apologize and say they didn't know who would have told me that about the rooms. They offered a 15 percent rebate to be sent later, but I bet I'll never see it. The only reason I gave one star was the hot water.

There's no TV remote in the room, and the smoke smell was so strong that my nose started running and I got an immediate headache, even though I'd booked a non-smoking room. Maybe they only decided this morning it would be non-smoking. A man who appeared homeless was hanging around the staircase, asked if I was from here, and moved toward me as I tried to get past him. It was scary. I checked for bed bugs as soon as I got in because the place just screams “bed bugs.” I unzipped and thoroughly inspected the mattress, but it still felt gross. I've stayed in budget hotels all over, and cheap shouldn't mean gross. Wyndham needs to remodel this property or shut it down.

We came in tonight looking for a room. My boyfriend vapes, and I've quit smoking. The older woman at the desk was rude and wouldn't give us a non-smoking room after he said he vapes. He then declined a smoking room. He assured her he'd vape outside so I wouldn't be uncomfortable with headaches from spending the night in a smoking room, but she smiled as he declined and walked away like he wasn't there. That's poor service and not how you run a business. I wouldn't recommend it.
