Super 8 Motel - Cullman

We only stopped because I couldn't drive any farther, and nowhere else nearby had a room. The place was filthy as soon as we walked in. What looked like poop was smeared on a wall by one bed, and the bedding looked dirty, especially the pillows. The bathroom had hairs on the toilet seat and a big glob of dried boogers on the wall above the toilet paper holder. The fridge was dirty too, and the whole room was gross. It was hard to fall asleep. The front desk didn't seem to care, and we weren't offered any kind of discount.

We paid $100 for one night and I couldn't even shower because of all the mold. None of the complimentary toiletries were stocked, so there was no body wash or shampoo. The receptionist gave me an attitude when I asked about it. She said nothing could be done while the manager was away, but couldn't tell me when I could call back to talk to them. You get what you pay for, but this was nowhere close to worth it.

The pictures definitely made the place look better than it was. The two people at the front desk were really nice and accommodating, and helped us switch a few things around. But in our room, pretty much only the sheets and a couple of towels were clean. It reeked of stale cigarette smoke despite being a non-smoking room, and we got a strong smell of fresh smoke every morning too. Most towels were stained, and the bath mat didn't look like it had been changed after the last guests. If they cleaned the floors, they just pushed everything into the corners. There was cigarette ash along the baseboards, the mirrors were dirty, and half the bulbs were out or missing. The place is run down, and the repairs they've tried are half-assed. The bathroom exhaust fan was hanging out of the wall. The shower rod must have fallen at some point, and they patched the old holes without repainting. The tub was chipped and stained. For what we paid, it just wasn't a good hotel. It was gross, and I wish other hotels in the area had shown up on booking and saved us the hassle. There are a ton of nicer places around that I wish we'd known about before planning the trip. I'd only recommend this hotel if you're desperate.

After our car broke down on I-65 with two 8-week-old puppies, Brad, the attendant, gave me a ride to the rental car place the next morning. He was very courteous and helpful. The room was clean, the beds were comfortable, and cable worked fine. It worked fine for us.
