La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Dalhart

The food selection was good, with waffles, oatmeal, cereal, bagels, yogurt, and toast. The eggs and sausage looked overdone, though, and the potatoes didn’t look cooked through. Staff were super friendly and the motel was super clean.

We got a reservation with very little notice, and the price was quite reasonable. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the modern bathroom was spotless with good water pressure. It worked great for our dog, too. Breakfast was pretty standard but well stocked, and the place was clean and flexible.

The train runs right behind the hotel, so light sleepers may have trouble. We also heard what sounded like a vacuum running in the hallway several times during the night. I wish I’d taken pictures of the room. On our previous visit in December 2024, the lower part of the hotel had just been renovated and our room was very nice. This time, the girl at the front desk was pleasant and brought extra towels when we asked, but we needed them because the floor was sticky as soon as we walked in. We wiped it ourselves, and both towels came away nearly black, or at least very dark gray. There was a lot of hair under the vanity and between the toilet and shower. The room smelled musty. I checked the sheets, and they didn’t seem unwashed, but after the bathroom I wasn’t sure. There were dirty hand or foot marks all over the walls. Breakfast was disgusting. The biscuits seemed a couple days old and were left with the bagels and muffins instead of in a warmer by the gravy; the muffins and bagels tasted old and stale too. The eggs were disgusting, don’t eat them. We’ve stayed at other La Quinta’s on road trips, and this was without a doubt the worst one. When we told the front desk about our concerns, she seemed indifferent and just said she’d tell housekeeping. If La Quinta is your choice, try to get to the next city. I’d never recommend this hotel.

The night was so hot and noisy that we left early without getting any sleep. Our room was on the first floor, and we could hear the receptionist talking and laughing all night; a loud cart also went past our door about every 90 minutes. The a/c didn’t work. The front desk asked if we’d tried resetting the circuit and said they could file a maintenance ticket for the next day. Its power cord looked unsafe, with an earlier repair wrapped in electrical tape. The power strip by the bed was faulty too: one outlet was dead, and the other only charged when the lights were on. In the bathroom, the renovation looked very cheap, with paint all over the counter, pencil marks on the shower tile, and a badly installed toilet. There were wild cats climbing around the cars outside. At check-in, the receptionist kept us waiting more than five minutes while texting and calling people on her personal phone. She didn’t know how to apply the discount and told us to ask at checkout, even though I’d called ahead and confirmed they could add it along with the pet fee. We signed and paid for the pet policy, which looked very unprofessional because of its spelling mistakes. At checkout, a different receptionist said the discount had already been applied, but it hadn’t. I asked for a receipt and he couldn’t produce one, saying there were two charges for the room and he couldn’t adjust them. He wanted my phone number written on scrap paper so the manager could fix the receipt and call me later, even though they already had my number. I still haven’t heard from them or received a receipt. I also told the morning receptionist about the a/c. As he walked past us, he stepped in a large puddle that looked like pet urine in the lobby corner and kept going without trying to clean it or even acting like it was there. I won’t return and advise others to avoid it because of the untrained staff, safety concerns, and all the hassles.
