Sands Motel

For a locally owned motel, it looks nice and they take good care of the property. Our room for four adults, with two queens and no smoking, was $65 a night. It was very clean, the beds were soft enough for a good night's sleep, the A/C worked great, and the bathrooms had what we needed. It may not be a five star resort bathroom, but this isn't a five star hotel! I was glad I trusted the real user reviews instead of the lady's review here, since apparently she was a worker who got fired. It's inexpensive but good quality, and I'll keep it in mind for future trips.

For the price, the advertised continental breakfast was even a little below what you should expect. I found orange juice, cereal, coffee, and one banana in the breakfast area; after I asked the staff, a couple of buns showed up. The bed sheets were clean, and there was a fridge and microwave, but I hope you like a hard bed. It was barely OK for an overnight transit stop. Cleanliness could have been better: dead flies on the bathroom windowsill and a dirty sink. There was exposed wiring at the bathroom electrical outlet, which is dangerous.

The owners were very gracious, even though we arrived quite late, and the stay was clean, comfortable, convenient, and very affordable. The shower head was only about five feet high, so it was a little awkward for a taller person like me. Breakfast was complimentary, but they took it down a bit early. Still, it was a nice quick overnight stop.

The nearby train is another downside, and the walls in our room were dirty. I even felt like checking for bed bugs for the first time. They were rude when we questioned the price difference, $59 online versus $84 in person. We asked where the free continental breakfast was since it’s advertised on the huge sign out front, and they said they stopped serving after covid. Then cover it up or take the sign down. They said it was too expensive to change, and the breakfast is still listed online too. I would absolutely never return.
