Hilton Garden Inn Dana Point Doheny Beach

The day before my wedding, on the way up to San Clemente, the property we'd booked called to say they were moving us to another hotel. Garden Inn saved the day and smoothly found more than seven rooms for our group. My husband and I got a very nice suite, everyone else had nice rooms too, and they discounted parking without charging us the room price difference. Our room was huge, with a separate bedroom, a large living room, and a big bathroom with both a tub and shower. It also had a cozy fireplace and two balconies with beautiful water views. The property was clean and well kept, with two guest lounge areas where we could see the sunset, plus a bar and restaurant. I have nothing but good things to say about the place. They were lifesavers for my family and me, and I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking in the area.

The rooms weren't clean, with stained sheets and very dirty toilets. When we called room service for washcloths so we could shower quickly before a wedding event, they never came. Later we were told staff couldn't be reached. We'd driven seven hours and arrived at 3:50 PM, but the hotel wouldn't let us check in until exactly 4:00, ten minutes later. There was no flexibility or courtesy after a long travel day. We were also surprised by the $50 nightly fee just to park our car on the property, even when self parking. From beginning to end, the lack of basic service, accommodation, and communication made this an extremely frustrating and disappointing stay.

I liked the rooftop lounge and enjoyed walking around across the street. The garage felt safe and had plenty of parking, though there was only one way out of the hotel. My room looked renovated, was very spacious, and had a balcony that was nice to relax on. The staff were really nice and gave me a free upgrade to an ADA room with a partial ocean view. They should disclose that kind of room first so you can decide, but it worked for me. There was loud running and constant noise overhead, so I called the front desk and they moved me easily to another room the same day. Someone from valet even brought my new keys upstairs so I didn't have to go back down. I'd stay again.

The chicken and rice bowl I had for lunch at Hilton Garden Inn Dana Point Doheny Beach was fresh, tasty, and cooked just right. Tammy was a wonderful server, friendly and attentive, and Chef Chris clearly takes pride in the food. Everyone made us feel welcome. They even offered water and snacks to my service animal without me asking, which I really appreciated. Great meal, service, and atmosphere. I'll be back.
