Americas Best Value Inn Danbury

Just an average hotel. The air conditioning is analog, and the TV remote was busted. The driveway is very steep going in and out, which must make for an interesting drive in winter.

After a long drive, arriving after midnight to find a room with no washcloths and two towels full of holes was frustrating. The man at the office said they didn't have washcloths. When I asked for extra towels, he said there weren't any and I'd have to wait until housekeeping came in the morning. I called the office in the morning to request a 12pm late checkout. The woman said 11:30 was possible. At 11:30, housekeeping knocked, asked for the dirty towels, and left. I packed and was out of the room within 10-15 min. When I checked out and asked for my $100 deposit, the woman immediately gave me attitude, saying she'd told me to leave at 11:30, saw on camera that I'd stayed longer, and had called the room. The room phone never rang, and she didn't call my cell, which they had on file and which I'd used to contact the office. After checking the room, she returned and warned she'd keep my deposit next time if I checked out late. I pointed out that I'd checked in after midnight, they had no washcloths or spare towels, and the room towels had holes. I told her she was rude. She just waved me off. Terrible hospitality. This place needs a company that knows how to treat guests, like the other hotels in the area that have been overhauled. One star service, and I doubt I'll return.

The staff were polite at check-in, and I was happy with my stay. My room was clean, the bed comfortable, and the furniture current and well arranged. The outlets all worked and were conveniently placed, one on each side of the bed and another at the table/desk. The air conditioning, mini fridge, and TV worked too. The parking lot looked clean and had enough spaces from what I could see when I arrived at night. I'd call this place a motel, which isn't meant as a criticism.

The room worked for one night, and the price was better, but it's too sparse for a longer stay. The front desk woman was all business, neither friendly nor unfriendly, and never smiled. There was newer flooring and furniture, but little else: no table lamps or homey touches, no tissues, just two towels and washcloths, tiny soap, no shampoo, and no rugs. The floor was cold. The wall unit had a heat setting but never made the room toasty, though it wasn't exactly cold either. There were USB chargers on the headboard, plus a microwave and fridge. I noticed a burnt smell when I used the microwave. The hotel is right by the I-84 exit.
