We got stuck in the area for a night because of snow in the NY/Metro area. The hotel and our room were clean, breakfast was adequate, and the front desk was okay. My son and his family got a better room than we did. For what we paid, it was good: $200 a night felt fair. But our delay continued, and the rate they wanted to charge rose by $300 a night. It was worth $200, certainly not $500.
The hotel’s location worked perfectly for our school competition in Florida. Everything else was awful. We were told six girls would have two beds and a pullout couch, but the couch turned out to be a trundle bed with a mattress about 2 millimeters thick, no sheets, and stains. The couch itself was stained too, with dried white and brown marks. The sheets we were given had hair, lint, and even a dead bug. That was our first impression. When we went downstairs, staff gathered around the computer, pointed out empty rooms, then told us they were fully booked and handed us more dirty sheets. There was hair all over the bathroom, the shower water was yellow, and the AC didn’t work. The room was ridiculously hot and didn’t feel clean at all. Help.
My sister’s phone was taken from the buffet by a HOMELESS PERSON, and we had to track it across the city and onto a bus, then confront the person ourselves to get it back before our cruise. When I returned and asked for the manager, the front desk staff said they’d seen the person but couldn’t confirm he took anything, which is why they hadn’t called police. They were “impressed” that we got the phone back. Even if he hadn’t taken a guest’s property, he was trespassing because he wasn’t a paying guest. The room was outdated and the bathroom was falling apart. I’d never stay here again. They need to improve security at the front door.
The breakfast crew deserve five stars. They were friendly, kind, and kept everything stocked. Breakfast was very good with lots of choices, and they even had water bottles to take along. The rooms were modern and very nice, and the pool area was good too. Updating the doors, hallway carpet, and wallpaper would finish the modern look. For years I’ve been a convoy member, so what happened was unbelievable and unacceptable. The problem was how unfriendly some staff were. The morning front desk man, who was taller and white or Hispanic, looked at me as if I didn’t belong. I was dressed nicely in jeans, a polo, and shoes, so it wasn’t my outfit. The maintenance crew were worse: I’d smile, wave, and say hello, and they’d stare at me the same way or worse. Someone in corporate needs to train them in basic etiquette and treating guests properly. If things still don’t change, the maintenance man and front desk guy should be fired. I can’t be the only person he treats as if they’re beneath him or up to no good.
This is a popular hotel in a handy spot near shops, restaurants, grocery stores, and entertainment. It was clean and cold, and the staff were polite, professional, courteous, and helpful. We enjoyed our stay and thought the hotel was nice. A few things were personal issues, and I understand the hotel’s position: the water pressure was low, the toilet didn’t have enough power to flush for me, the sheets looked like they might have had stains, and the toilet seat was loose.
