Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham Beckley East

The bed was comfortable, but I got a slight rash from detergent left on the sheets after laundering. The room itself was clean, though it showed some wear. I also couldn't get the temperature to settle, it was either too hot or too cold.

After 1,400 miles on the road, this was one of the better places we stayed. The front desk guy upgraded our room when we arrived, and it was surprisingly spacious. The regular rooms may be smaller since it's a micro hotel, but for the price we got plenty. It's much nicer than Days Inn for about the same cost, and probably the best quality you’ll find at the cheaper end. There’s a 24-hour gym and waffle makers for breakfast, too. I can see it not being for stuck-up people, but for regular folks trying to get home, this is the place. Those 1-star reviews have to be lying.

Being able to open the window more than two inches was great. We sat in the nook and took in the WV mountain air and view, with extra pillows on hand. The front desk clerk Bryan even helped us add another night and made sure we were comfortable. From arrival onward, the whole team was friendly and professional, and their attentive service really made the trip for us.

The breakfast was mostly packaged carbs, and the counters were nowhere near level. The room was okay, just small as you'd expect from a Microtel. Not bad, though it’s hard for a Microtel to earn four stars.
