Historic Hotel Nichols

I was only in South Haven briefly in late September 2024 for a wedding. It was my second time in the USA, and I was overheated in a suit and short on sleep, in a place that felt completely unfamiliar. The hotel was the only place open, and I needed somewhere to sit and have something cool to drink. They weren't serving drinks, but the front office worker kindly offered a cold bottle of water from their mini fridge. That small kindness stayed with me. I finally found the hotel on Google and am writing this review 1,5 years later. I work in hospitality too, and really value genuine care in an industry that can feel increasingly full of facades and artificiality. We've stayed at Hotel Nichols twice in the past 7months, and can't wait to return. The hospitality is awesome, and everyone is super nice. Happy Hour is relaxing, and we enjoy the people we get to talk to. The hotel has a nice blend of modern updates and original architecture, and breakfast is delicious and cooked to order. The location is just steps from the heart of South Haven, and we'll be back. The rooms have historic character but are well maintained, clean, and comfortable. Each one has a fridge, and breakfast comes with the room. They also offer special packages. On warm days you can sit in the garden patio outside the hotel. Friday and Saturday evenings there's a happy hour with wine and Charcuterie.

The room is cozy, with a warm, comfortable bed, and the hotel's friendly hospitality is hard to beat. We've stayed before and it keeps getting better. It's easy to walk to the shops, restaurants, lighthouse, and beach, right in the heart of this lovely town. The made to order breakfast is the best in town, and the complimentary happy hour feels like sitting around a living room with friends. We loved our October stay and hope to return. Being a dog friendly place makes it even better for us.
