Hampton Inn Mobile-East Bay/Daphne

Our room was nice, but the shower had no hot water. I know a thing or two about scald guards, so I managed to fix it myself. The hotel is being renovated, and the lobby is pretty much a construction zone. On our last night, the smell of marijuana was really strong. I called the desk to ask if someone could make rounds, and the manager seemed annoyed that I’d asked. Poor service.

This has been our halfway stop between home and my mom’s place for years, twice a year. I booked directly with the hotel again, but nobody mentioned that construction was underway, the front entrance was closed, or that we’d have to check in farther away and then walk back around to reach the front entry. Last year’s room remodeling had been dusty and noisy, but it hadn’t gotten in our way like this did. I recently had foot surgery and had only been cleared to walk short distances, about from the living room to the kitchen. Getting to check-in on the pool side in semi-darkness, then walking back, was painful and difficult, and felt unsafe. The hotel should tell guests about the construction and difficult routes when they book. This wouldn’t meet accessibility standards. I don’t understand why they’re doing this work while the hotel is open. Closing for a few months and finishing it all would make more sense. The rooms aren’t half price to make up for the mess guests have to get through just to check in.

I couldn’t get any real sleep because beeping in the hallway went off every 3-4 minutes all night. During the day, renovation noise was constant and extremely loud, so relaxing or working was difficult. The property is in the middle of major renovations, but I wasn’t told before booking or when I arrived. The gym was among the amenities and services that weren’t available. If I’d known how extensive the work and disruption would be, I wouldn’t have booked here. The lack of notice and all the noise made for a very unpleasant stay. I wouldn’t recommend staying until the renovations are finished.

Room 514 had just been remodeled and looked fresh, but it wasn’t set up for people traveling with more than one suitcase. There’s a lot of bare wall and only one built-in spot for luggage, so I had to pull out the ironing board to use as a stand. The bathroom counter barely had room for a hairbrush. Disappointing. Sigh....
