Hampton Inn Darien-I-95

The desk staff were pleasant, which was the best part of the stay. For what the hotel costs, the quality didn’t measure up. The bathroom floor had hair, and the dining area and rooms had a moldy smell and feel. Breakfast was only lukewarm, and the eggs were gone by about 8 a.m. The keys locked us and several other guests out before checkout, even though checkout was at 11. Around 8:30, cleaning staff were already working in rooms where guests had checked out, playing music and talking loudly without much consideration for people still resting. I’d prefer music or weather playing in the dining area instead of the news. I’m not likely to stay here again.

We paid $173 for a room that had hair all over it. There was hair on every towel, washcloth, bath mat, the bathroom floor, and even the pillows. I spotted it as soon as I entered the bathroom, so whoever checks the rooms isn’t doing a good job. We were so grossed out that we skipped showering there and waited until we reached Florida later that day. There was a bad smell too, though the whole area seemed to have it. We stopped for one night on the way to Florida, and were told breakfast was included, but then there wasn’t any. For that price, the room should be up to standard. You pay Hampton prices here without getting Hampton quality. Go somewhere else.

The room was clean, smelled fresh, and had a comfortable bed. I especially liked the walk-in shower. Breakfast was okay, with bagels, waffles, danish, and other options, and the orange juice was good. Scrambled eggs and sausage are my least favorite combination, though. I’m giving it four stars because the check-in could have gone better.

The staff were great, and aside from the damp, musty smell, the room was clean. We got in very late, so we didn’t report it or ask to move. Our room was on the ground floor facing the parking lot, and I wondered if it might be from rain damage over time. The beds felt a little worn, but sleeping on the side most people probably don’t use solved that for us. This was a handy halfway stop right off I-95, and we were glad to rest there before continuing our trip. We’d probably stay again, but would ask to change rooms if we ran into the same smell.
