Best Western Plus Dayton Hotel & Suites

I’ve had problems during my last couple of stays at the Best Western Plus in Dayton, and this visit had several. I won’t be staying there again. When I return in July to see family for a week, I’ll book in Walla Walla at either Courtyard by Marriott or Holiday Inn Express. The most frustrating part was being charged for a night I couldn’t use. An unexpected emergency meant I had to leave a day early, but the hotel said I hadn’t given 24 hours’ notice. I usually stay at Marriott or IHG properties and haven’t run into this there, or at other Best Western locations. Plans can change for all sorts of good reasons on short notice, and in my experience most hotels have accommodated their members. That wasn’t the case at this Dayton, Washington property. There was also a hot water problem on my first morning. When I told management, they said it was an ongoing issue and they were apparently waiting for parts. I wish they’d told me when I checked in. Housekeeping didn’t happen on Wednesday, even though I’d requested daily service. At check-in, I was told it wouldn’t be available on Thanksgiving because of the holiday. Since I was staying four nights, Tuesday through Saturday, with checkout Saturday morning, we agreed on service Wednesday and Friday. I was away from 9:30 a.m. until after 9 p.m. Wednesday, but the room still wasn’t cleaned. The hard water has left heavy mineral buildup on the faucets, shower heads, bathroom tiles, shower doors, sinks, and toilet. The tiles and porcelain look dingy, and the towels do too. I don’t know whether there’s a water softener, but it might help protect the fixtures and linens. The deposits seem like they could be cleaned with vinegar and a brush.

We all slept comfortably, which is unusual for us in a hotel, and the place was so quiet. The rooms were clean, and breakfast was great. The staff were all friendly and nice, too. We didn’t have time to try the pool or hot tub, but they looked clean and well cared for. We’d happily stay here again when we’re in town to see family.

The staff were friendly, and the hotel is pet friendly and well maintained. It’s nice, though the mattresses could probably use replacing soon. Ours was still comfortable.

The room itself was comfortable, but the chairs were stained and worn, and the shampoo, conditioner, and soaps could use an update. They didn’t smell very good. I also tried the gym, but none of the machines worked: the bike wouldn’t turn on, and the treadmill and cross trainer powered up without starting. The cross trainer’s arms and pedals moved, but there was no timer or resistance. When I mentioned it to the front desk woman, she said she thought at least the cross trainer worked. I told her I’d just go for a walk. When I got back, she was with another worker and said they’d had a “brilliant idea”: she’d get in her car and I could try pulling it for resistance. They both laughed. I walked away. I found that remark completely out of line and unprofessional. Please keep the gym equipment working, or put a sign on the door saying it’s broken. I stayed on 11-14-25 to 11-15-25, and I won’t recommend this hotel or stay here again.
