Hickok's Hotel & Casino

The live music across the street was a nice touch, but it couldn’t make up for the visit. We drove 45 minutes to Deadwood for the Hard Rock and parade, hoping for a classic Hard Rock Cafe meal, and didn’t get the restaurant atmosphere we wanted. The store was a letdown too, small and poorly stocked, without the merchandise we usually expect from Hard Rock. Finding a seat was difficult. We could choose between indoor bar stools and outdoor high tops. With our small, already grumpy child, no booster seats was a real problem. We had to rig something to keep him from falling onto the pavement, and the outdoor heat was over 90 degrees. The burgers and pizza were okay, but the iced tea tasted awful enough to make us wonder about the water. Service was frustrating throughout. We stood around for a long time, unsure what to do, while staff kept telling us to wait for a hostess. It turned out the one waitress was also handling the whole patio. She seemed overworked in the heat, but refills were scarce and the check took more than ten minutes.

We just stopped in for pizza and a few drinks, so I can’t speak to the rooms. The service was excellent and the pizza was good. Didn’t win any money, though, lol.

I enjoyed dinner at the bar, especially their supreme pizza, and the tavern inside the casino was nice. We stayed three nights at the Rocksino in a beautiful, very comfortable room. Drinks were free while gambling, and there was no limit on what you could order.

It was packed when we stopped by because live music was on. I understand it was a busy time, but the wait staff seemed completely uninterested in helping or serving us. I wouldn’t come back.
