It’s an older place, but it’s very well kept, and the rooms were excellent. I especially liked the local people. The lady across the street at the General Store helped me find aspirin and even offered to go home and bring some back if she needed to. Later, a few of us went out to the parking lot to admire the dark sky “that God made” for us. We could even see an arm of the Milky Way. So beautiful!

The best part for me was how comfortable the beds were. The linens were clean, the room was huge, and the bathroom was spacious and well stocked with soap and shampoo. I had some of my best nights of sleep there. I stayed at Stovepipe wells village hotel during the Dark Sky Festival weekend, and there was nothing about the room I didn’t love. I was in 49ers, with parking right outside. The buildings and rooms are easy to access, including for wheelchair users. There’s a decent-sized mini fridge, bigger and better than the ones I’ve seen in many hotels. I also liked the clearly labeled, well-sorted large bins and the accessible lidded trash cans outside. Getting there is straightforward, on paved roads inside death valley, and it’s an accessible base for the area. Furnace creek is about 30 minutes away. Mesquite sand dunes are a 10-15 minute walk or a five-minute drive, and major attractions are within 3-5 hours to and fro. There’s a store and has station right outside, where gas costs less than at furnace creek. A ranger station across the road has permits and a self-service kiosk. Check-in was quick and easy. The staff were professional, courteous, helpful, and had good suggestions for places to see, food, and other details. The badwater saloon and the Tollroad restaurant serve an amazing breakfast, a healthy spread and one of the best I’ve had. Don’t skip it if you’re staying here or visiting DV. The pool is a good temperature, cool on hot days and not cold at night. It isn’t really hot, but it doesn’t feel cold at night either. My only suggestion for the Stovepipe team is to add a shared microwave, maybe at the saloon or restaurant, for reheating food. Everything else was perfect, and I’d visit again. Highly recommend it.

Stovepipe was much better for us than Oasis ranch. We got a fantastic, clean, modern room at a very reasonable price, and an extra bed meant our family of five fit without much trouble. We loved sitting on the building porch and looking at the sand dunes. The kids swam in the pool in the evening, and we had dinner and breakfast at the restaurant and stopped by the gift shop. It was a great, family-friendly place to stay, and I hope we’ll return one day.

Simple, clean, basic accommodation inside Death Valley national park. I got there at 3 pm and checked in early without waiting. The outside has a western look, but inside the rooms feel like a regular motel, without much theme or atmosphere. The staff were nice. The pool was being painted, so we were told we couldn’t use it. There’s a mini fridge in the room, and coffee and hot water in reception only during certain hours, like 9 pm to 7 am. The coffee machine is the kind you see at a gas station. Mesquite sand dunes are a mile away, and zabriskie point is a 40-minute drive. It was a fine stay. There are nicer places in the park, but they cost more.

We had a great stay at Stovepipe Wells Village hotel. The rustic feel, old western decor, restaurant food, and outdoor fire were all lovely. After leaving, though, I realized I’d forgotten my expensive coat. I called and messaged every number I could find for the hotel, restaurant, and saloon, and emailed all the addresses I could find. At first I only got voicemail or no answer. About a week later, they replied by email and phone and offered to pack up the lost item and send it if I provided a prepaid label. So you may be able to get something back if you lose it, but be patient.
