Comfort Inn - Dedham-Boston MetroWest

I came for work and checked in for one night. The woman at the front desk was friendly and welcoming, though the room coffee maker was missing its pod tray. The coffee downstairs at the breakfast nook was old and undrinkable. My work then ran late, so I came back at 4 pm for another night. A different staff member said they didn't know if any rooms were available because housekeeping hadn't turned in the clean room list, and I could wait around until they got it. At 4 pm, they still couldn't tell me whether there was a clean room, and the person showed zero interest in helping us check in. We left and took our business elsewhere. Customers are a business's most valuable asset, and this was a complete fail for the second night's check-in. We won't be back.

The pool was still shut tight on the last day of June, which was the biggest letdown. Breakfast offered a decent range, but there was only sausage and no bacon. The bed was comfortable and the shower got nice and hot, though the bathrooms could use better upkeep and updating.

The location was good, but after my late flight I had a rough time getting into the room. The first keys failed, then the replacement keys did too. On the third trip, an associate came up and opened the door, explaining that the deadbolt was partly engaged and only staff keys could work. Inside, the room smelled of mildew, bugs were crawling around, including on the bed, and the bathroom was filthy with hair in the shower. They had no other rooms, so exhausted, I drove home instead. The next day I called to discuss it with a manager. I was told my message would be passed on and I'd get a call, but repeated attempts to reach anyone went nowhere. It left me thinking they're used to these calls and don't plan to address the problems. I'm a platinum Marriot member and stay at different locations often. This is the only one I wouldn't return to.

I keep coming back for work because it's cheap, parking is easy, Legacy Place restaurants are walkable, the mattresses are decent, and you get the full 10 Marriott points per dollar instead of 5 at the Residence Inn next door. But the rooms smell awful so often that I wake up with my sinuses wrecked, maybe from mold or something. One winter night the furnace quit, and the units are usually noisy. Near the lobby on the first floor, you can hear through the thin soundproofing. Breakfast feels fake and makes the place seem like the very bottom tier of Marriott. I'd raise my one-star take to three if the rooms didn't stink so badly. Yuck.
