Courtyard by Marriott Chicago Deerfield

I’m a Titanium member, and they don’t honor the Bonvoy room upgrade perk when you use points. The manager tells staff to say the hotel is full. To the manager: you want high-ranking members staying at your hotel. We spend more on amenities and drinks, and we return often to hotels we like, sometimes without using points. You don’t get to Gold and Titanium without basically living in a Marriott for a third of the year. Unless your hotel is full all the time and collecting premium rates, which it isn’t, treating Marriott’s best customers this way will only hurt you. I also never got a chance to get any drinks. It never seemed to be open.

The rooms have been updated, but the hotel entrance is under construction, and there are no convenience features like a Marriott mobile key. Other Marriott properties in the area are better.

We had a good experience until we realized we’d left my wife’s pillows in the room while unloading the car. She had invested a lot in them and always brought them on vacation. We called right away and asked staff to set them aside. It was around 4 pm, and the front desk girl said she’d check with housekeeping and get back to us. After at least four calls with no response, I drove back to Deerfield to retrieve them. Housekeeping had never been notified, and the pillows had been thrown away. I asked for a manager, was told they were busy and would call me, but nobody from the hotel ever returned any of our calls. Leaving the pillows was our fault, but even a little respect for customer service could have prevented this.

The rooms were spacious and comfortable, and this was my second time bringing my grandchildren for an overnight. They loved it. The hotel had everything we needed for a weekend getaway. Staff were courteous and friendly and made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. I had a good experience at the Deerfield Chicago Courtyard and would recommend it for a pleasant stay with family or friends. We’ll be back!
