Americas Best Value Inn and Suites Denton

When we came back on 08/12/2023, the beds in our two-bed room were infested with bedbugs. We left, handed in the key card, and got no money back after paying $110. We had to drive five hours home. The accommodation was very poor. That's a sharp change from our first visit: on July 11, 2023, we stayed for two days and had a pleasant time. The place was clean and nice, inexpensive, and the staff were friendly. The cleaning lady had done a good job on the room and was very kind. I recommended it wholeheartedly then.

I stayed for two weeks and never got a replacement for the hair dryer, even though I was promised one. Nobody seemed to take the problem seriously. The manager and reception staff were friendly, and my room didn't have bedbugs, though I did see one in the shower around day three and washed it down the drain. There was hair on the sheets and pillows, one pillow had stains, and the sheets had cigarette burns despite this being a nonsmoking room.

At $80 a night, I expected better. The hotel is old and looks poorly maintained, with stained sheets, bad paint inside the rooms, and old fixtures bolted to the tables. Breakfast is supposed to run from 6 to 9, but when we arrived at 8 most of the food was gone and they weren't going to refill it. They also said they offered an AAA discount, but it wasn't applied to my bill. I'd give this place one or two stars at most.

The room smelled and was only partly clean, with broken tiles taped to the floor. We were stuck paying $25 more than the quoted price because, despite our insistence on getting a reservation after being told we didn't need one, they had no reservation for us when we arrived. Every nearby hotel was full, so we had little choice. For a similar price, the Motel 6 in Alvarado TX had much nicer rooms and better customer service. I'd send people there instead.
