Rodeway Inn Denver Downtown

The location and price worked for me. I only needed the basics, and the AC, fridge, microwave, and TV all did their jobs. There wasn't an ice bucket in the room or at reception, so the desk guy handed me a trash liner and I turned the sink into a cooler. They also let me have an extra half hour to check out. Nothing fancy, just what I expected.

The receptionist at the desk was kind, but the room was a letdown. The pillows were awful, the sheets made me itchy, and the toilet had yellow stains like it hadn't been cleaned properly. Noise was another problem. In the middle of the night, people in the next room were fighting and yelling, banging the door as they went in and out. We could still hear them once they were inside. I’d been told on the phone that the place had just reopened after being closed since COVID began. Given that, and the higher price, I expected it to be clean. It wasn't.

This place has a very distinct smell, and the service felt unwelcoming. I was warned at least four times that guests, smoking, or leaving any trash could cost me my $50 deposit. The basic deal seems to be a bed, bathroom, and locking door. Housekeeping costs extra, a queen bed that's actually queen size is another $20, and you only get five items from the breakfast bar before there's another charge. For a reasonable price, I suppose that's what you get, but there are hundreds of nicer places around. They may be $20-30 more, and that money would be well spent.

The Denver skyline view is beautiful, but the room wasn't worth staying in. As soon as I shut the door, I saw huge gaps above it, along the sides, and underneath. It looked like someone had kicked it in, and I wasn't confident the lock worked. I checked out right away and can't recommend staying here. The building and rooms are way overpriced for their condition. The women at the desk were great when I checked out.
