Baymont by Wyndham Des Moines North

The room was clean and fine for the price, though the TV volume was low and wouldn’t adjust for some reason. It’s a “You Get What You Pay For” kind of place. Ngl, I’d stay there again because the price is right, and the inconveniences weren’t enough to make me pay more somewhere else. I was actually staying at the adjacent Super 8, which apparently is managed out of the Baymont. My Hotwire deal said continental breakfast was included, but I didn’t see any. There were three airpots, for decaf, regular coffee, and hot water. The regular pot was empty, and the decaf was cold. Made me wonder if it was a day old. Or days???

This was the worst Baymont I’ve ever stayed at. If I could give it negative stars, it’d get -40. Gross. There was someone else’s blonde hair all over the shower, and there were what looked like dried blood stains on the carpet. We had no towels when we checked in, and the room phone didn’t work, so I had to go ask the front desk for them. There weren’t any cups for the coffee pot either. Then I found carpet beetles in the bathroom, and as I was gathering my things to check out, a giant roach ran across the wall. The hair in the shower was especially upsetting because of concerns about contracting Hepatitis C from someone else’s dirty shower.

When I went to put my sodas in the refrigerator, I found a pizza box with leftover pizza from a local place inside. The TV remote was on the floor with its battery cover missing and one battery gone. I found the battery under the stuffed chair, but never found the cover. There were no glasses, plastic or paper, no ice bucket, and not even a coffee maker. At the front desk, I was told they don’t provide glasses or in-room coffee anymore. The new manager/owner? said they were making changes. I told her she would see changes too, like the doors closing because of these changes. Not good!!

In person, the woman at the desk was great. She understood and felt bad that the room smell was making me sick while I was 31 weeks pregnant. My husband and I had checked in to the Super 8 next door through this hotel’s lobby, but the room smelled so strongly of bug spray that we had to check out. She promised a refund within 5 business days. It’s been 9. I’ve called 3 times and left a voicemail, but no one got back to me. When I finally reached someone, they said they don’t do refunds and the manager was out. I was told to email or call later, and the person didn’t help beyond telling me to call back in 3 weeks. The service after we left has been terrible.
