Motel 6 des Moines South - Airport

This is a basic motel with a basic rate, and you get what you pay for. The room was reasonably priced. The newer hardwood-looking linoleum seemed like it might be cleaner than carpet, and the floors were decent. The bathrooms were newer and very clean, the shower curtain looked fairly new and not moldy, and the beds were decent. The water got nice and hot, and the air conditioning was nice and cold. We checked the mattresses for bed bugs right away and found none. My one complaint was some mold around the air conditioning vent, which made the air musty. We sprayed air freshener on it and that helped for a few hours. We were only there at night, so not for long. SHY, 7/30/2017

After a long trip, all we needed was clean beds, but the first room hadn't even been cleaned after the previous guest. The beds were stripped, with dirty linens, towels, and trash scattered around. When I asked for another room, the front desk person said he had no problem telling off dissatisfied customers and that we could go to another hotel. In the replacement room, heat blasted out as soon as I opened the door, and it felt almost 100 degrees. It was supposed to be nonsmoking, but reeked of cigarettes and had burns throughout. The base trim carpet was on the floor with nails exposed. The sheets had lint and hair, the floor hadn't been vacuumed, and the bathroom sink, counter, mirror, and floor looked like they hadn't been cleaned in months. I wouldn't let my children off the beds or walk around barefoot. We couldn't sleep either, with the neighbors and their kids yelling and bouncing around until 3 am. I'll never return.

The room stank, and in some spots my shoes stuck to the carpet. The blankets had crusty stains, so we slept on our coats. There were cigarette ashes and water rings on the nightstand, and the bathroom faucet looked like it hadn't been cleaned. We didn't use the dirty shower stall either. At least there were no cockroaches or bed bugs. This was the worst Motel 6 I've stayed at, and I'm not sure when the room was last cleaned. I'd give it no stars if I could.

The hotel staff were amazing, but we're completely unsatisfied. The room was so dirty we had to clean before settling in. There was blood on the comforter and sheet, hair in the shower, and no hot water. The front desk said the owners don't allow refunds. They offered to move us, but said the rooms were all about the same. Motel 6's call center could only offer a coupon book, and the customer service on that call was very disappointing. Around 2 in the morning, our door flew open, so we had to brace it with our luggage. The window wasn't locked and took some effort to latch. A draft came in, so I put a blanket in front of the window. We were even afraid to use the heat because the hanging return had a 2 inch pile of dust. I believe we should get a refund or credit at another Motel 6, but both responsible parties refused to hear our requests.
