Renaissance Des Moines Savery Hotel

The banquet food was mediocre at best. My steak was overcooked, and the mashed potatoes had no flavor. Someone at my table got crunchy, undercooked rice with visibly undercooked salmon, while another guest had overcooked rice and a piece of salmon twice the size of everyone else's. The green beans were the only good part, and we each had maybe five or six. The room was small, especially for the price, and there weren't even liners in the trash cans. I paid for an upgraded room and experience, but every time I tried to check out the lounge, it was closed. The bathroom was extremely cramped. The toilet was wedged between the shower and wall, and I nearly hit my knees on the shower door. Sitting on the toilet, I could reach the sink. In the shower, I kept bumping my elbows, and showering with my partner was out of the question. The shower door also kept rolling open two or three inches. I found the toilet paper situation nasty too. It was just a roll you had to pick up and unroll, with no dispenser, so who knows how many guests had handled it before us. All in all, this fell well below expectations for what I paid.

The staff are nice, and I liked the decor, but the hotel leaves a lot to be desired. Rooms are small and amenities are limited. There's no laundry room or pool. To get into the other Marriott across the skywalk, you'd have to know someone who can let you in.

I can't speak to the rooms, though I'm sure they're amazing. The cocktail lounge here, the cora room, was perfection. Bella is phenomenal! The food was perfect, and I still dream about the charcuterie board. Delicious drinks too, 10/10 recommend!

The location is great, but this place isn't worth the price, and there are better options nearby. The room and bathroom were so small there was barely room to move. The AC was loud and kept cycling on and off all night, so sleeping was hard. I called the front desk twice and nobody answered. Then I was charged for those calls? I also didn't appreciate paying for internet when the stay was already expensive.
