Extended Stay America Select Suites Chicago O'Hare

The front desk was open only a few hours a day, and the room still smelled strongly of urine when we left after nine nights. We reported on Monday that the odor was coming from the bathroom, but staff said housekeeping would deal with it Friday or Saturday. No one came to clean. On Wednesday I asked about the trash and was told to leave it outside the door for pickup. After it sat there for two days, I brought it back inside and found a letter saying we’d violated sanitary rules. I’d only followed their instructions. When I asked for clean towels, they said I could collect them from the desk, but wouldn’t bring them up. I got two bath towels and two washcloths, no hand towels. Later, I was told that because our stay was only nine nights, nobody would clean the room since they only clean every two weeks. Clean towels cost $2 each, or I could wash them myself for $4.50 a load plus $4.50 to dry. The kitchen had no coffee pot, dish soap, utensils, pots, pans, dishes, or cups. They said needed items came in packages at extra cost, but nobody explained any of this at check-in. At other properties in other states, those things were included in the price. I’ve stayed at this hotel in other states and enjoyed everything, so I’m very disappointed with this property and its staff.

Wendy at Extended Stay made check-in feel comfortable and welcoming. She was friendly, professional, and ready to help. She’s a real asset to the team, and I appreciate her great customer service.

The third-floor spot was mostly quiet, and the staff and manager were helpful and did try. Still, the manager wasn’t upfront about extra fees, and none of that makes up for how dirty and depressing the place felt. The reviews calling it an unclean place that smells like pot and a homeless shelter were right. On arrival I had to redo the cleaning housekeeping had barely done, and they never came back. The negatives far outweigh the positives.

There’s plenty of well-lit parking, and the location is handy for the airport and highways. Restaurants and shops are nearby, though not necessarily close enough to walk to. It could be worth considering if you want a cheaper option in the area. The smell is the downside. Depending on the time of day and where your room is, it can smell strongly of pets and smoke, both tobacco and marijuana.
