La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham DeSoto

The continental breakfast was nice, and the host and staff were all very friendly. We had our Galentines weekend here, found the place immaculate, and will definitely come back.

We felt safe here, and parking was good. It’s a newer place with quiet rooms, a terrific bed, and staff who were especially helpful and considerate. We loved it and will return.

The breakfast was the letdown. The biscuits and sausage were burnt, the eggs looked awful, and the attendant came out from the back with music playing just to put out five muffins and five yogurts when there was nothing to start with. Even the lone boiled egg in the fridge looked like someone had nibbled on it. I chose the hotel for its location and pool, and the room and rest of the hotel were really clean. I love that clean smell. My stay was good, so I might come back, but definitely not for breakfast or that stingy, inattentive service.

I arrived after a morning flight knowing check-in was at 3pm and that early access might cost extra. The front desk said there were rooms available but I’d have to pay the early check-in fee, so I decided to wait in the lobby. I’m a doctor with appointments that morning, and I planned to work discreetly from there. When I asked the front desk agent for WiFi, she said they couldn’t give me the code until I checked in and had a room number. There was also an access code option on the WiFi page, but she didn’t help me sort it out. A guest kindly let me try their last name and room number, but it still wouldn’t connect. My phone hotspot wasn’t strong enough for my virtual system either. I called Wyndham’s 1800 number, but they were no help. They called the same front desk agent, who apparently said no. The phone agent suggested I ask for a manager, and the agent at the desk said the manager wouldn’t be there for another hour. I asked Wyndham to either waive the early check-in fee, since I only wanted the WiFi, or cancel the reservation without charging me under the cancellation policy. They said they could cancel but couldn’t guarantee I wouldn’t be charged, and that cancellation had to go through the property. I said I’d dispute any charge with my credit card. The phone agent kept apologizing, which wasn’t enough. There’s always something you can do for customers. At least the phone agent seemed to pretend to care, unlike the emotionless front desk agent. I finally told the desk to cancel my reservation and went across the street to Hampton Inn and Suites. They saw I was upset, listened, and offered me a discounted king size suite that I could use right away because things were slow. That was quality customer service. Wyndham, I vow never to stay at any of your hotels ever ever ever ever again. Take a note from Hampton in customer service. Update: I left my number for the manager to call, but got no call. I went back to speak with the manager and was told they wouldn’t be there until tomorrow.
